Freudenberg Automotive JoestFreudenberg Sealing Technologies announced today that Rainer Joest will become the new President of its global Automotive Sales and Marketing organization effective April 1, 2016. The company is based in Weinheim, Germany and is part of the Freudenberg Group.

Joest succeeds Torsten Maschke, who will leave the company at the end of March to pursue new opportunities outside of the Freudenberg Group.

Joest brings extensive experience in research and development, sales and manufacturing to his new position. He joined the company’s research and development organization in 1978 and later held positions as a development engineer and sales consultant before taking over the management of automotive sales in Europe in 2001.

In 2006, Joest was promoted to head of Freudenberg Sealing Technologies’ Special Sealing Products unit, a position he held until 2010. Since that time, Joest has been in charge of the company’s global Gasket Division, with responsibility for facilities in Europe, the United States, Brazil, India and China.

Joest has helped pioneer a number of crucial developments during his tenure as head of the Gaskets Division including the creation of the Curve Gasket. This patented innovation makes it possible to design engine components to be smaller and lighter, saving fuel and helping to reduce vehicle emissions. Due to its resource-conserving and material-, space- and weight-saving design – with improved performance – the Curve Gasket fits perfectly into Freudenberg‘s long-term sustainability strategy.

Joest holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany).
