Minnesota Rubber and Plastics’ River Falls Wisconsin facility has received certification for processing Torlon PAI, from the manufacturer of Torlon, Solvay Specialty Polymers. Torlon has one of the highest tensile strength ratings of any thermoplastic at elevated temperatures up to 525° F, and is designed for use in the most demanding applications. This new capability further expands this plant’s already broad range of materials.
“Torlon PAI has outstanding friction, abrasion and chemical resistance making it ideal for severe service environments,” stated Lih Fang Chew, Minnesota Rubber and Plastics, Global Vice President Marketing who announced the certification. “By becoming a certified Torlon molder, our Wisconsin facility continues to expand their high performance thermoplastic technology solutions for transportation, medical & pharma, water and power industries in the company’s global high growth regions. Minnesota Rubber and Plastics has a strong commitment to these regional markets and we will continue to provide customers with the most advanced material and design technology for their product platforms.”
“We are excited to partner with Solvay and utilize Torlon in new molding projects,” Lih Fang Chew stated. “Torlon is one of over 1500 high performance materials in Solvay’s portfolio providing us access in many new ways to improve customer product designs and build strong partnerships with key customers.” Minnesota Rubber and Plastics Plastics has been a Torlon processor in its North American operations for many years. Now with this new Torlon certification, we are better able to comply with additional regulatory and agency approvals. These include certifications such as ASTM D4000, ASTM D5204, Mil-P-46183 and Mil-P-46179A, together with specific material certifications at key OEM and tier suppliers, including those at Boeing, GE Engine, Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors.
